MATCH's 30th Anniversary
“When did you last see your mother?”
30 Portraits of Mothers Apart
We are still fund-raising for this Photographic Exhibition to mark the 30th Anniversary of MATCH in May 2009.
Venue: London and then, dependent on finance, other UK cities
General Aim
To generate wider, more focussed publicity for MATCH. "One picture speaks a thousand words".
Particular Aims of Wider Publicity
- To demonstrate how cultural, social, health, financial and emotional issues significantly impact on the lives of MATCH mothers.
- To challenge the narrow public perception of - and fascination with - MATCH mothers. Society's appetite for stories of MATCH mothers’ lives appears insatiable. What exactly is it that we stand convicted of? Why are we MATCH mothers?
- To develop a debate on why previously good and caring mothers are "punished" by both society and their children, sometimes forever, in many wide and varying circumstances, e.g. divorce, family breakdown, adoption, abduction, care orders, prison.
